Here’s a sweet video demo of Hot Toys‘ new Parallel Eyeball Rolling System (PERS) which made its debut on their recently released MMS DX 01 The Dark Knight - Joker figure. After seeing the video and realising how appropriate it was to use such a system on the Joker (gives Joker’s expression an almost life-like appearance), I’m kind of regretting for not pre-ordering this wicked figure. Oh well, I’m pretty sure the figure’s still widely available for now so it’s all good.
Winson Classic Creation is about to add another cool figure to its line of Apexplorer figures. For this outing, these wicked primates will be all dressed up for space. There will be two variations of the figure, an Original Space Color Adam figure and a Space Special Adam figure which will be limited to 400 units.
The Original Space Color Adam figure will include the following:
- Space Clothing inclusive Space Gloves and Space Boots
- Space Helmet
- Space Helmet-mounted Scanner
- Space Power Engines
- Blaze Gun
- Gear Belt
- Power Controller
The Space Special Adam figure will include the following: - Space Clothing inclusive Space Gloves and Space Boots
- Space Helmet
- Space Helmet-mounted Scanner
- Space Power Engines
- Blaze Gun
- Gear Belt
- Power Controller
- Apes DNA Test Tube
Both figures are scheduled for a March 2010 release and will be distributed by Hot Toys. I agree that some 1/6 collectors do not like the idea of the unrealistic ape-faced figure on a “human” body, but personally I kinda like the space theme to these figures, especially the suit and the light-up helmet.
This shouldn’t come as any surprise since Hot Toys (or any other toy manufacturers for the matter) will milk every penny out of a franchise by releasing minor costume updates and variants. Well, at least this one comes with a battle-damaged endoskeleton featured base and a 1/6th scale fully articulated Hydrobot with light up function. So I guess it’s all good.
How many of you who purchased the original-release John Connor are intending to pick this version up as well? Or are some of you thinking that you should’ve waited for this instead? Me..I still prefer the original one, but the light up Hydrobot on this is making this kinda tempting…hrmm. Damn you HT!
ACI Toys has just released their line of 1/6 Military Sweater Series. They come in 3 different colors with both Round Neck & V Neck versions in fine knitted and woven fabric. These sweaters accurately represent military sweaters of most modern nation forces and will be an indispensable accessory for modern 12″ military customisers. They supposedly fit best on Hot Toys figures, but will also be suitable with other brands.
This is awesome news. Aldo Raine, the character played by Brad Pitt in Quentin Tarantino’s latest smash hit movie Inglourious Basterds will be an upcoming figure in Hot Toys’ Movie Masterpiece (MMS) line.
Inglourious Basterds has been chalking up rave reviews everywhere but I have yet to watch it myself. Although I pretty much know I’m just gonna enjoy it as much as the rest of Quentin Tarantino’s previous masterpieces. I can’t even decide which Tarantino film’s the best as I pretty much love most of them. Do you have a favorite?
Hot Toys seems to be getting everything right don’t they? I’ll be keeping my eye closely on this one as it develops. Nice!
Here’s Hot Toys’ take on one of the characters of Watchmen. The Silk Spectre II figure will be yet another addition in Hot Toys’ impressive line of Movie Masterpiece figures. I think the likeness of the face sculpt is pretty spot-on to Malin Akerman in her role as Silk Spectre II in the highly acclaimed Watchmen movie. Figure-hugging black costume, yellow romper with garters, black thigh-high boot tops, black gloves…what’s there not to like about this figure really? And I like how they’re using implanted hair, rather than the usual sculpted ones. It just adds another layer of realism to the figure, but some might consider that a bit too doll-like eh?
Also, if you’d like to watch the Watchmen film in full-HD glory do check out the Special Edition Blu-Ray Watchmen package at Amazon.com as well, it comes with a nifty light-up Night Owl case to store the Watchmen Blu-Ray discs.
This is a definite must-have item as I love Matrix and Hot Toys has again done a fantastic job with this. Hot Toys seem to be on a roll these days and most everything they churn out turn to gold. This is of course good for us collectors, as their competitors will just have to step up to the challenge and we can only expect better things in the future from these companies. This here is the Sentinel robot from The Matrix. Not only is it an incredibly detailed representation of the squid-like robot from the Matrix trilogy but at over 15 inches long, this 1/16-scale Sentinel is also pretty huge. The Sentinel features 15 poseable tentacles, each with 2 points of articulation, and 10 poseable limbs beneath the main squid body, each with 3 points of articulation. I guess 2 things are going to suffer as a result of this Sentinel figure, our wallets and display space.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original Alien film, Sideshow Collectibles in partnership with Hot Toys will be releasing the 1:6-Scale Alien ‘Big Chap’ Poseable Model Kit under Hot Toys’ Movie Masterpiece label and will be based on the original designs of H. R. Giger.
The ‘Big Chap’ is about 14″ in height, roughly the same as Hot Toys’ Predator figures if I’m correct. It comes with a nicely weathered diorama base but not much accessories here, Aliens don’t use guns anyway. They pretty much do away with claws and green acid spit..and the occasional hide and seek.
Good evening folks! Today I’ll be looking at the Hot Toys Batman Dark Knight figure. The Dark Knight suit is supposed to be an improved version of the original suit as seen in Batman Begins. I’ve been meaning to get myself a Batman figure from Hot Toys, and I’m glad I held off on purchasing the original suited figure when Batman Begins was released some years ago as I prefer the look of this new suit instead. First impressions is that this Dark Knight version has significantly more armor than the original suit. Props to the costume designers for the Batman: The Dark Knight movie for creating a much more dynamic and realistic suit and one which looked less like those worn by comic book heroes from the 60s. (Just compare the suit of Batman of the 60s as portrayed by Adam West and this one and you’ll be able to better judge how far Batman suit design has come).
Now let’s get on with the packaging and contents of the figure. The figure comes in a pretty standard sized Hot Toys box with an outer slip bearing a picture of Bale in the Dark Knight costume. The box is dominated by Dark Blue and Black undertones, which I really like as it represents the darker and bleaker nature of the film itself.
As many of you would already know, Hot Toys actually went back and made changes and improvements to the sculpt and costume of their prototype figure because some very observant fans noticed that the suit was not film accurate enough. From what I can see on the figure I have in hand, most everything looks spot on and I doubt Hot Toys would have been able to do a better job than they already have with this suit. The figure looks like a miniaturized version of Christian Bale in the Batsuit and is indeed a sight to behold. I often take glances to admire the accuracy and beauty of the figure, and I haven’t gotten bored of looking at it after all this time! However, I do have a gripe with the suit and that’s with its durability. As with most rubber suited figures, I have real reservation that the suit would be able to last over time. Hot Toys have been under fire in the past over the durability of their rubber suited figures, such as the Deunan Knute and Briareos figures from Appleseed: Ex Machina. I have had my Dark Knight figure for a few weeks now, and I realised that there is a slight indentation on the back of the legs where the suit rested on the figure stand. And it doesn’t seem like an indentation that would go away either, since it looked as though the rubber might actually have a small tear over time. It is however almost unnoticeable because it is very tiny. My advise is if you intend to display this figure with a stand over extended periods of time then try rotating its pose and placement on the stand regularly. Otherwise, just try posing him without a stand. I would hesitate to pose him in extreme positions as well in fear that the rubebr suit might tear or lose its elasticity over time.
Due to the nature of the suit, the figure will not be able to perform any uber extreme poses. But overall, I’m pretty happy with the articulation and the myriad of poses I’ve managed to get out of this kickass figure. The accessories that came with the figure are quite satisfactory. He comes with a Batman with cowl headsculpt, a Bruce Wayne headsculpt, a pair of Batarangs, Grappling Gun, mine bomb, 3 sets of hands and a utility belt. The headsculpt is fantastic as usual, as with most Hot Toys figures. The sculpt quite accurately resembles Christian Bale, with that steely blank expression. Overall, I’m extremely happy with this figure and would highly recommend it to all 12-inch figure enthusiasts as well as Bat fans everywhere. Finally, please check out some of the pictures I’ve managed to take, some with Bats standing right next to Clark Kent. Woohoo..now I can finally create a scene right out of DC’s Superman/Batman comic books. Well done, Hot Toys. Here’s looking forward to the upcoming Predator and Terminator: Salvation figures!
STOMP: Excellent Sculpt, Fantastic Costume, Nice & accurate accessories
CHOMP: Limited articulation, Concerns over durability of costume, Expensive
