Residents in Sydney, Australia woke up to a red-hued sky as parts of Australia experienced one of the worst dust storms in history. The eerie looking dust storm was apparently caused by years of drought in inland southern Australia and strong westerly winds. It must’ve been pretty surreal but terrifying at the same time to wake up to such a rare phenomenon. The crazy times we live in.

Some of the pictures reminded me of a post-apocalyptic world or maybe Mars, while others reminded me of Gears of War. lol. I seem to find parallels in games in everything. Note to self…just stop thinking about games for a second.

Here’s hoping the dust will completely settle soon and Australians can breathe easy again.

Some of you might have already heard of Harrison Krix of Volpin Props, but if you haven’t then I’d suggest you stop whatever you’re doing right away (including reading this post) and go visit his blog right now! This guy makes some of the most fantastic props I’ve seen, I kid you not. I think he pretty much outdid himself with his most recent costume/prop of the beloved Big Daddy from Bioshock. This guy has crazy skills. He has documented the Big Daddy build on his blog here. I’m amazed at the attention to detail and the amount of planning, design and execution that he has put into it. I think the people from Legacy Effects (formerly Stan Winston Studios) or some other big name Hollywood special effects company should hire him right away.

Also check out the video of the Big Daddy suit with the working drill arm…Holy $#!+

Yet another onslaught of EVA figures, this time from the recently released in Japan hit movie Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance. These are the EVA Test Type-01 New Movie Edition, EVA Production Model-02 New Movie Edition, and the never-before-seen EVA Provisional Unit-05 New Movie Edition which I presume we’ll be seeing in the film. Personally, I can’t wait for the worldwide release of the film on October 2009. All figures are immediately available. I’m digging the new Unit-05 as it has a very mechanical and utilitarian design to it.

A resin kit version of the Unit-05 figure will be released as a Hobby Japan magazine mail order exclusive in October 2009 for 19,800YEN (about $200), so I think this Revoltech version is a bargain so I’ll have one thanks.

Available At:

Revoltech Eva Test Type-01 New Movie Edition Version 2 at Play-Asia.com

Came across this useful bit of information from Gigazine which I thought I’d share with my fellow readers seeing how the Swine Flu (H1N1) has been in the news a lot lately.

By using a face mask, we not only protect ourselves from bacteria and viruses but we help to contain the spread of bacteria and viruses that we carry while we’re having the flu. I’m not exactly sure how well a DIY face mask made out of paper towel will work in filtering out the Swine Flu (H1N1) virus, or any other viruses for the matter, but I guess if you need a mask and you do not have access to one then this might be your best bet.

According to the Gigazine article, the information was written by a doctor of Katakai Hospital in Niigata prefecture.

The step-by-step instruction on how to make a face mask using paper towels is available at the Gigabit link here.
