Harrison Krix of Volpin Props, whose jaw-droppingly outstanding Big Daddy suit I mentioned in one of my previous post has again managed to awe and inspire us by taking some of the most surreal and beautiful photos of him in said suit. He was complemented by his fiancee Emily, who looked equally amazing as a Little Sister. The photos were taken in the Georgia Aquarium, and I think you’ll agree with me that they do indeed look as though the pictures came right out of the game itself! Just compare the pictures with this official Bioshock wallpaper from the 2kGames site and you’ll get what I mean.

After you’re done picking up your jaw from the floor from viewing the rest of the high res pictures in his blog here, you’ll be in for another surprise as he’s currently auctioning off this very same Big Daddy suit on Ebay (auction ends Dec 03, 2009 09:20:14 PST). Yes folks, if you have some extra greens lying around and you feel like owning this superbly made replica costume of the Big Daddy, you actually have the ability to do so now. Mr Krix is even willing to build a custom display stand for the suit for a fee if the auction winner would like one.

This suit and the photoshoot is awesomeness redefined, and I’m dreaming of having it on display in my games room even as I type…*sigh*..note to self..I’ve gotta earn myself more money.

Good news for Figma collectors, gamers and Saber fans. Fate/Extra will be released around March next year for the Sony PSP. Unlike the previously released Fate/Unlimited Codes (for the PSP & PS2) which is a VS fighting game, Fate/Extra will instead be an action RPG featuring the lovely characters from Fate/Stay Night such as Saber and Rin Tohsaka.

The best part is, the game will come in a Limited Edition version which features a special illustrated box, a beautiful figma figure of Saber in her Fate/Extra costume, a soundtrack and a visual book. The Figma figure will come with 2 different headsculpts, sculpted by Wada Aruko and Takeuchi Takashi respectively. The game still has a few months before finally coming to market, but there’s already something to like based on the screens in the Famitsu magazine scans as well as preliminary pics of the figure…Saber’s see-through costume! Can’t wait.

Follow the official Fate/Extra Blog here.

After watching the lobster catching crane machine clip in my previous post, I decided to do a little research on other unique(or should we say weird) arcade games and machines. The search led me to a post on Kotaku about a table flipping game called Cho Chabudai Gaeshi (Chabudai Gaeshi means flipping the table in Japanese). I think flipping a table as a show of displeasure is an east Asian thing since I’ve seen it on quite a few occasions in Chinese and Japanese films, in particular when negotiations go sour in triad/yakuza films. :)

This Cho Chabudai Gaeshi game lets players do just that by pounding on a “table” and finally flipping it. Players are able to select from a range of scenarios including a host club, wedding party, an office as well as in a living room. It looks pretty hilarious to me and sounds like something I’d want in my house whenever I get really pissed off!

Ever played one of those UFO Catcher machines in arcades to try and grab a prize for yourself or that special someone? Well, up until now, I’ve only seen them with plush dolls, toys, junk food, and maybe even electronic gadgets like iPhones and handheld games. But what do you know..the crane machines now come with live lobsters! I think this takes the cake for weirdest post of the week for me.

It’s a shame the video at the end didn’t show how the winner collected the lobster. Did it come with a bag? Are you supposed to just pick it up and walk away with a wet and slimy crustacean in hand? I’m guessing these were produced by the Japanese, so maybe you’re just supposed to crack open the lobster right away and eat it sashimi style. Yummm!

Here’s an interesting video coverage of the Tokyo Game Show 2009 event. Would love to be able to attend one in the future if time and money permits. The video featured quite a few interesting products, such as Microsoft’s Project Natal for the XBox 360, Sony PS3’s motion controller, as well as the PSP GO. There’s also news coverage on Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception which uses the iPhone’s accelerometer and touch screen to control the in-game fighter planes, and the much-anticipated Final Fantasy XIII on the PS3. The video is definitely worth a watch even if you don’t understand Japanese.

From the looks of it, it seems like game companies are increasingly moving towards a more interactive game environment as there seemed to be an emphasis on non-traditional interactive and control methods with hand gestures, body movements, and motion controls. This to me is a welcome move as I’m a fan of Nintendo Wii’s controller, which pretty much changed the way we game on a console. I also find myself spending the most time on my Wii (ok, this came out wrong) than any other console I own.

tokyo_game_show_2009_tgs_final_fantasy_cloud_strife_perfume

Alright, I really love Final Fantasy VII. It’s without a doubt the best game I’ve ever played. Heck, I don’t even consider it a game..more like a life event everyone needs to experience, like having sex for the first time, getting married…yeah, I think you pretty much get the idea by now.

But it kinda annoys me sometimes when I see the amount of “pointless” merchandise Square Enix throws out to die-hard fans suckers like us. This here is a Final Fantasy VII Cloud Perfume which was sold during Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2009. I’m finding it hard to imagine how Cloud would smell like if he was real flesh and blood. Ummm..probably kind of like everyone else (ie. sweaty and smelly after a long day carrying that Buster Sword which probably weighs more than he does).

I don’t know, as stupid as a Cloud perfume sounds, I’m actually quite curious as to how it’ll smell. Should I scour Yahoo! Japan for one…or should I wise up and not fall for Square Enix’s marketing ploys? Decisions decisions.

The newly designed Sony PS3 Slim looks pretty good to me, but as nice as the slim PS3 is, this Playstation 4 concept by Tai Chiem absolutely blows it out of the water. With it’s smooth mirror finish and simple shapes and lines, it’s a celebration of aesthetic beauty at its best. Woudln’t you agree that the black mirror finish and clear glass goes together rather nicely?

What does this concept PS4 contain you ask? Bluetooth integration, LCD screens on both the system and controller, the ability to mount the system horizontally or vertically are among it’s design features.

However, I’m doubting the usability and practicality of the controller since it seems to be missing quite a few buttons which are usually found on the top of the PS3 controller. Perhaps Tai Chiem could find a way to incorporate the missing buttons and try and sell the refined design to Sony. I’m sure most of us wouldn’t mind if our game consoles looked this good, even if it means having to clean it more often due to the mirror-like finish which attracts fingerprints like bees to honey.

But alas, this thing remains a concept and we can only hope that someday our future gaming devices would look this good.

Seeing this arcade board of Sega’s Golden Axe 2: The Revenge of Death Adder on Yahoo! Japan Auction brought back very fond memories of 2 of my best friends in high school and me frantically popping in coin after coin trying to complete this game. Ahh those were the days. Those who have played this great game in arcades will know that this is not an easy game to complete without using heaps of credits, at least that’s how it was with us. The game though, was an absolute blast, especially if you have 3-4 players simultaneously since you’ll be able to perform special group attacks such as the spinning piledriver! This is one of those games you just have to play with some buddies to understand why arcades should live forever and some games will never be the same when played at home.

I was so glad to see this on YJ Auctions since I don’t think they come up very often, but I’m also pretty bummed that 23,000 YEN (assuming it doesn’t go any higher) is a fair chunk of change for an old game. So I guess my dream of putting this beauty into a restored cabinet will have to be put on hold, just like so many of my other projects due to time & money constraints. *sigh* Welcome back to the real world.

It didn’t seem that long ago that Arcana Heart 2 was released in arcades and on Sony PS2, and now fans of this all-girl 2D Fighting series have Arcana Heart 3 to look forward to. Examu has just launched a teaser site for Arcana Heart 3 here. The site doesn’t have much at the moment, except for a picture of a female character called Weiss who is rumored to be the new main character in the storyline, as well as a Gundam-lookalike character, which apparently is her Arcana/Geist.

Ariesu.com has a few more scans of pages relating to Arcana Heart from a gaming magazine. I’ve managed to find out from a Gamespot thread that the magazine highlighted the following:

  • New heroine called Weiss, based on the German theme of the game

  • Her companion (the Gundam looking character) is named Godfried

  • She belongs to an organization called Drexler Institute.

  • Arcanas are being replaced by something called Geist

  • The Super Gauge goes up to 3 now

uncharted_2_among_thieves_fortune_hunter_edition_naughty_dog

Here’s a limited edition game which I think is genuinely limited and difficult to obtain, as opposed to the masses of limited edition game packages out there. Amy Hennig, Naughty Dog’s creative director revealed that the special Fortune Hunter edition for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves cannot be bought but instead will be given away through a series of competitions. People who were interested were told to keep an eye on the Playstation Blog, PlayStation Home and the upcoming Uncharted 2 multiplayer demo for more information.

The Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Fortune Hunter Edition will include the game, an uber neat replica of the Phurba Dagger Artifact as seen in the game, including a display stand as well as a collectible art book and collector’s case autographed by Naughty Dog, plus a host of downloads.
