The much anticipated pair of custom Evangelion Rei Stratocaster and Telecaster from Fender Japan which I mentioned here is finally on auction in Yahoo! Japan. But before you get all excited about wanting to bid and win one of these, I’d like to point out that with a little less than a day left in the auctions (ends 12th Dec 09), the price of the Rei Stratocaster is currently at 9,082,000 YEN ($100,000.00) while the Rei Telecaster 7,756,000 YEN ($86,000.00). No, your eyes are not deceiving you…the bidding on the Rei Stratocaster is already up to a little over $100K! You could almost buy a (cheap) apartment with that money!
So I guess most of us mere mortals will just have to sit back and let the Evangelion fanatics with deep pockets to fight it out. Any guesses how much these will end up going for?
Guess what Larry Ellison, CEO and co-founder of Oracle Corporation and one of the richest people in the world is going to have in his garage alongside all his other exotics? The Kirkham Motorsports Ultimate Cobra Roadster of course! Kirkham Motorsports decidedly spent two and a half years to build this “ultimate roadster” based on Mr Ellison’s directive to build an ultimate roadster where cost is of no importance.
The result is this shiny one-off all-aluminum masterpiece. What’s more, the entire process from the design to the manufacturing process of parts and components was fully documented in a billet bound book which cost a cool $4500! This is the most expensive book I’ve ever heard of. Well, I’m sure there’re more expensive books out there, but I’ve pretty much only read comics all my life, so I wouldn’t know. Anyways, back to the book..it apparently required more than 35 pounds of aluminum plate and in excess of 30 hours of CNC mill time to produce each book! Whoa! That’s ALOT of aluminum for a book doncha think? Even all my kitchen utensils plus the kitchen sink wouldn’t weigh that much. For those who would like to check out the book but not quite willing to part with $4500 of hard-earned money, the book is available for download at Kirkham Motorsports’ page here.
Kudos to the people at Kirkham for creating the car (and the book maybe). I’d love to be able to see it in person as I’m sure it’s every bit as shiny as the pictures suggest. By the way, I think the garden pictures with the car were taken at Larry Ellison’s home since the garden at his home was apparently fashioned after Japanese architecture, and that garden looked pretty zen to me.
The newly designed Sony PS3 Slim looks pretty good to me, but as nice as the slim PS3 is, this Playstation 4 concept by Tai Chiem absolutely blows it out of the water. With it’s smooth mirror finish and simple shapes and lines, it’s a celebration of aesthetic beauty at its best. Woudln’t you agree that the black mirror finish and clear glass goes together rather nicely?
What does this concept PS4 contain you ask? Bluetooth integration, LCD screens on both the system and controller, the ability to mount the system horizontally or vertically are among it’s design features.
However, I’m doubting the usability and practicality of the controller since it seems to be missing quite a few buttons which are usually found on the top of the PS3 controller. Perhaps Tai Chiem could find a way to incorporate the missing buttons and try and sell the refined design to Sony. I’m sure most of us wouldn’t mind if our game consoles looked this good, even if it means having to clean it more often due to the mirror-like finish which attracts fingerprints like bees to honey.
But alas, this thing remains a concept and we can only hope that someday our future gaming devices would look this good.
We all know Japan has all the cool (and sometimes weird) stuff. Now this is something I’ve never seen before. Not sure if this is a custom one-of-a-kind Boblbe-e backpack or not..I’m guessing it is. For the uninitiated, Boblbe-e (aka Boblbee) is a Swedish company which produces backpacks that double as back protectors for bikers, cyclists, skiers and the like. Their most popular and successful line is their Megalopolis hardshell backpack.
As you can probably tell from the pictures, this does not look like your everyday Boblbe-e Megalopolis backpack. It comes with what seems like an In-Car Tuner/Cassette player with a built-in CD Changer. It even has built-in speakers and an antenna sticking out! I’m not sure if this is truly portable though. I think it looks like there’s an outlet to plug in a mains adapter, so this might not be a fully portable device. Either way, it’s still an amazingly cool idea!
The auction ends in about 10 hours as of time of this writing and there still aren’t any bidders.
If you enjoyed the Terminator: Salvation movie and can’t get enough of all things Terminator related, here’s an exclusive item to add to your list of must-haves. This 2GB USB flash drive from Solid Alliance has red Swarovski rhinestones for eyes to give it a menacing look (and crazy price tag). At 15,000 YEN ($160) for 2GB worth of capacity is by no means cheap, but that’s what you’ll have to pay for exclusivity as these are supposedly being produced in very limited numbers. It’s for sale only in Japan but if you really want one, GEEKSTUFF4U apparently will be stocking some in September for us not living in the land of cool gadgets.
XBox-Scene.com forum member Bandit5317 has recently created the smallest and slimmest XBox to date. This miniscule black box has a dimension of only 23.5 x 21.65 x 2.5 cm! Pretty mean feat, considering he managed to squeeze in a 320 GB 2.5″ HDD in that tiny little box as well. Very well done. Hit the jump for more information on how he did it.
There was a Bentley GTZ Zagato listed on Craigslist!
The Bentley GTZ Zagato is built by coachbuilder Zagato who took a regular Bentley Continental GT Speed and wrapped it in a newly designed hand-shaped aluminum body. The GTZ featured more pronounced character lines and a revised rear end. This beauty is powered by a monstrous 6.0 litre W12 which develops 600hp (441kW) and 750Nm (553ft-lb) of torque, just the kind of car you’ll be needing on your daily city commute.
Now take a deep breath and hold for the price of this masterpiece: $1.3 million.
Not to be outdone by the recently erected Gundam 1/1-Scale Robot in Odaiba, Tokyo, somebody at Kobe decided it’ll be a good idea to have their own 1/1-Scale robot monument. And they went with the Tetsujin 28-Go robot, or more popularly known as Gigantor in the USA, as Mitsuteru Yokoyamathe creator of Tetsujin 28 was born in Kobe.
The Tetsujin-28 monument will stand at a towering 18 meters (60-ft) and weigh 50 tonnes. They even fashioned the streetlights around the site of the monument to resemble Tetsujin 28’s head, how cool is that?! Work is already underway, and the public can follow its progress via its very own page here. Can’t wait for this to be finished so we’ll be able to compare it to the Gundam in Odaiba. But just based on the pictures, I’m already liking this Tetsujin 28 monument over the Gundam simply because it has a more dynamic pose.
Wonder which famous anime robot’s gonna be next to get the 1/1-Scale treatment…EVA-01 perhaps?
Whoa…here’s a good one..Kotobukiya will be dropping these Star Wars Lightsaber chopsticks in November for 1,050 YEN ($10). The Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker chopsticks will measure 23cm while the green Yoda version will measure 20cm long. Hrmm..not only is Yoda vertically challenged on film, now even his eating utensils has to be shorter. Sadly, I can only seem to find them on Amazon.jp, and they don’t offer shipping outside of Japan for these awesome sticks, so I have no idea where to get them. If anyone’s lucky enough to get these, be prepared for some chopstick wielding duel on the dinner table for that last piece of sushi.
As most Gundam fans out there already know, this year marks the 30th anniversary of Gundam, so there’ll be lots of things prepared in honor of this much-beloved franchise, like the Full-Scale Gundam in Odaiba, Tokyo. And here’s one created by a fan from Taiwan. I’ve seen many weird, wacky and wild Gundam creations over the years but this one definitely sits right up there in the “No Way!” category. I’ve always subscribed to the fact that creativity and artistry is never a bad thing..in fact, without it we’d never be able to push ourselves to explore new possibilities. But in this case, the totally blinged out pink Gundam just isn’t cutting it for me. There are some things that just don’t go together, and jewel beads, pink and Gundams pretty much go together as well as oil and water.
