Harrison Krix of Volpin Props, whose jaw-droppingly outstanding Big Daddy suit I mentioned in one of my previous post has again managed to awe and inspire us by taking some of the most surreal and beautiful photos of him in said suit. He was complemented by his fiancee Emily, who looked equally amazing as a Little Sister. The photos were taken in the Georgia Aquarium, and I think you’ll agree with me that they do indeed look as though the pictures came right out of the game itself! Just compare the pictures with this official Bioshock wallpaper from the 2kGames site and you’ll get what I mean.

After you’re done picking up your jaw from the floor from viewing the rest of the high res pictures in his blog here, you’ll be in for another surprise as he’s currently auctioning off this very same Big Daddy suit on Ebay (auction ends Dec 03, 2009 09:20:14 PST). Yes folks, if you have some extra greens lying around and you feel like owning this superbly made replica costume of the Big Daddy, you actually have the ability to do so now. Mr Krix is even willing to build a custom display stand for the suit for a fee if the auction winner would like one.

This suit and the photoshoot is awesomeness redefined, and I’m dreaming of having it on display in my games room even as I type…*sigh*..note to self..I’ve gotta earn myself more money.

Metal Gear fans rejoice! Our dream of owning a fantastic representation of the Metal Gear Rex figure is finally going to come true! 3A Toys will be releasing this exceptionally well done (at least from the looks of these preliminary shots) Metal Gear Rex figure sometime next year. Rex here is rumored to be around 15″-17″ and will be constructed of PVC, resin, and ABS plastic (much more cost effective materials compared to its full-scale in-game counterpart :) ). As with all 3A figures, it’s probably not going to come cheap though. I’ll be waiting anxiously for the final pricing. Here’s hoping I’ll be able to go for it when the time comes.

the_a-team_movie_promo_poster

Just came across an official promo shot of the cast of upcoming The A-Team movie on WorstPreviews.com. The picture brought back memories of those childhood years when I would eagerly wait for every episode of Hannibal and his rag-tag team of misfits to blow me away on the small screen for an hour.

My favourite character was of course B.A. Baracus (played by Mr. T), the mohawk-sporting resident tough guy. I recall owning the 12″ B.A. Baracus figure which was made by Galoob way back in the 80s, and it was one of my favorite toys back then, next to my Transformers and M.A.S.K. vehicles & figures. Ahhh, it’s always a great feeling to reminisce the good old childhood days.

In this movie remake, the role of B.A. Baracus will be played by Quinto Jackson. The rest of the cast are Liam Neeson as Hannibal, Bradley Cooper as Faceman, and Sharlto Copley as “Howling Mad” Murdock. Can’t wait to see how they compare with the original cast! To further add to the excitement, Hollywood hottie Jessica Biel will have a role as an army general and ex-love of Faceman. This film looks like it’ll be an absolute blast!

This custom-made 1/6 Aliens Stasis Tube would make the perfect diorama accessory for those Hot Toys Aliens & Colonial Marines. It is built by Frank Cerney of FM Model Co. Head over to the company’s page here for more info & graphic goodness. Good news is the Statis Tube is available for sale for $60 and comes in kit form.

They’ve also produced a few other equally fine kits such as the Viper Mk II from Battlestar Galactica and the upcoming B-Wing from Star Wars. Their kits aren’t exactly cheap, but apparently they’re pretty well known for their quality among kit builders.

The reviews of the much-anticipated Ferrari 458 Italia are now starting to make their rounds. British Car magazine Evo as well as Autocar has each given their opinions on Maranello’s newest pocket rocket. What did they think of it? Well, watch and find out…

Holy $#!+! A few weeks ago, I mentioned about a beautiful pair of custom Evangelion Rei Stratocaster & Telecaster that were being produced by Fender Japan. Well guess what, there’s going to be 1/8 miniaturized versions of these and they will be produced by F-Toys! This is absolutely amazing news, at least those of us who aren’t prepared to fork out that many greens for the real-deal can now own the miniature versions. Hey, if we can’t own the full-sized one ourselves, doesn’t mean our lovely 1/8 figs can’t have one too. Can’t wait to have these to go along with my 1/8 Haruhi.

Expect these to hit shelves around January 2010 for 4,725YEN ($50) each. Best of all, they even come with their own Nerv carrying case.

Available at HLJ.com, HobbySearch.com, & Eva Store.

It’s been awhile since I last did any review, so here’s one on a neat little device I picked up recently. This is the Buffalo Ministation Pro TurboUSB 500GB Portable Hard Disk. The Ministation TurboUSB was actually my last pick of the lot when I initially set out to look for a portable hard disk. The other storage devices I was considering included the Seagate Freeagent Go, Transcend StoreJet 25M, Toshiba Portable External Hard Disk Drive, and the Western Digital My Passort Essential. My initial dislike of the Ministation TurboUSB was due to its thickness and weight, which at 23mm and 225g was the thickest and heaviest of all the portable drives I had in mind. I then realized the thickness was due to its anti-shock protection design, as the drive itself is suspended in a shock-absorbent inner floating structure within the case, great for butter fingers like me! And although it was the heaviest device on paper, when I did a comparison by holding all the devices in my hand, I hardly noticed any significant weight difference. After all, we’re only talking about 20-40g differences between all the units here.

The Transcend StoreJet 25M and Toshiba units came with anti-shock protection as well, but the Toshiba was more expensive and I didn’t see a point in paying extra for the same amount of drive space. The Western Digital Passport Studio II came with a Firewire 800 interface which means it’ll have much faster transfer rates than the Buffalo Ministation’s USB 2.0 interface, but again that meant the WD Passport was much more expensive and I don’t think I’ll be doing nearly frequent enough transfers to justify that price difference. The feature which pretty much convinced me that the Buffalo Ministation should be the pick of the bunch was its very clever way of keeping the USB cable neat and tidy. If you look at the first picture I posted, you’ll notice that the cable can actually be securely wrapped around the unit itself for storage. I thought it was a simple but brilliant idea, and since I can’t stand messy cables this was an absolute Godsend!

The unit also comes with AES 128-bit encryption which is available by default without having to install any additional software. This means that the drive will automatically encrypt data so they remain safe if the disk is lost or stolen.

However, the TurboUSB feature which was supposed to be a selling point of this device really didn’t make much of a difference for me. I didn’t notice any significantly faster transfer rates with TurboUSB. But I ain’t complaining as long as it’s not slower! :) Couple all the above mentioned points with an attractive price and the Buffalo Ministation TurboUSB became my pick of the bunch and so far, I’m pretty happy with it.

Update: The Ministation’s Secure Lock Ware data encryption utility as well as the Memeo backup utility do not work with Ubuntu Linux, or other flavors of Linux. If you’re a Linux user and would like the data on your Ministation to be encrypted, use TrueCrypt instead. It’s open-source and is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux. I use it on my Ministation and it works flawlessly.

STOMP: Anti-shock drive protection, AES 128-bit encryption, TurboUSB feature, Brilliant cable management feature, Attractive price point.

CHOMP: Size and weight, Plain design, Lack of Firewire interface

Good news for Figma collectors, gamers and Saber fans. Fate/Extra will be released around March next year for the Sony PSP. Unlike the previously released Fate/Unlimited Codes (for the PSP & PS2) which is a VS fighting game, Fate/Extra will instead be an action RPG featuring the lovely characters from Fate/Stay Night such as Saber and Rin Tohsaka.

The best part is, the game will come in a Limited Edition version which features a special illustrated box, a beautiful figma figure of Saber in her Fate/Extra costume, a soundtrack and a visual book. The Figma figure will come with 2 different headsculpts, sculpted by Wada Aruko and Takeuchi Takashi respectively. The game still has a few months before finally coming to market, but there’s already something to like based on the screens in the Famitsu magazine scans as well as preliminary pics of the figure…Saber’s see-through costume! Can’t wait.

Follow the official Fate/Extra Blog here.

Check out this kid by the name of Giuliano Stroe. He’s your average 5-year old Romanian boy….except err well…he’s got more defined abs than most adults and packs on more muscles than people 3-times his age. According to his dad, Julian Stroe, little Hercules here has been training since he was 2! Damn..I think I was still learning how to pee on my own when I was that age. Kids these days.

His dad went on to elaborate, “He has been going to the gym with me ever since he was born. I always took him with me when I went training…He is never allowed to practice on his own. He is only a child, and if he gets tired, we go and play.”

I don’t know, on one hand it’s pretty amazing what this kid has achieved but on the other, it’s a bit freaky seeing a 5-year old doing this to himself.

On an unrelated note, that Spanish host in the second clip is HOT!

The limited edition Lexus LFA supercar has made its much anticipated debut at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show. The LFA has set its sight at Nissan’s awesome GTR as well as Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini. When finally released, the LFA will be one of the most technologically advanced and complex cars utilising a naturally aspirated 4.8L high-revving V10 engine capable of delivering a thumping 560 hp and 480 Nm of torque. Performance from 0 - 62 mph is completed in a scant 3.7 seconds while maximum speed is 325 km/h (202 mph). Weighing in at just 1,480kg due to its use of advanced Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) for the chassis and bodywork, the LFA will have a power to weight ratio of 373bhp per tonne and a specific output of 115bhp per litre. These are indeed very impressive numbers, even for supercar standards.

Production of this hand-built beauty will be limited to just 500 units and the cars will be assembled at the Motomachi plant in Toyota City. Finally, the most important figure most people are dying to know…the cost. The LFA will carry a price tag of €375,000 ($550,000).

Is it just me or does anyone else think that for a $550,000 supercar, the design oughta look a little less like a souped-up Toyota Celica? It somehow doesn’t have a supercar look to it.
