Here’s a pretty unique marketing effort you don’t get to see everyday. Take a look at this short clip of the people at PUMA putting together a Ferrari display car made out of their line of clothes! Such creativity just makes the world a more colorful place doesn’t it?
Residents in Sydney, Australia woke up to a red-hued sky as parts of Australia experienced one of the worst dust storms in history. The eerie looking dust storm was apparently caused by years of drought in inland southern Australia and strong westerly winds. It must’ve been pretty surreal but terrifying at the same time to wake up to such a rare phenomenon. The crazy times we live in.
Some of the pictures reminded me of a post-apocalyptic world or maybe Mars, while others reminded me of Gears of War. lol. I seem to find parallels in games in everything. Note to self…just stop thinking about games for a second.
Here’s hoping the dust will completely settle soon and Australians can breathe easy again.
Haven’t done a review in what seemed like eons now, so I thought I’d do a quick report on one of my more exciting recent acquisitions. This is of course the Metroid Prime Samus Aran Resin Kit from Japanese garage kit maker Dimension Diver. This beautifully cast kit was a Wonder Festival 2009 Summer Event Exclusive and a hot one at that. It did cost me quite a fair bit of change to acquire but I’m really happy with it.
I like how the kit comes with individually colored-cast parts, so you could pretty much build it without having to lift a paintbrush (or airbrush). The kit is a little small for the price though, and IMHO it would’ve been perfect if it was done in a slightly larger scale. It comes with just a single sheet of printed instruction in color. The kit itself looks fairly straightforward to build though. I have yet to build it since I have a tonne of other kits sitting around so this’ll have to wait.
Since it was such a highly coveted kit, supplies of the kit has pretty much dried up even on the secondary market. My search on Yahoo! Japan came up with nothing, but ironically there’s one up for auction on eBay with 5 days to go. The price is already at $188, wonder how much it’ll finally sell for.
So this is it for my short review of the Dimension Diver Metroid Prime Samus Kit. Be sure to check out the photos.
STOMP: Beautiful clean casting, Colored parts, Very Limited
CHOMP: Expensive, Would have been perfect if it was in a larger scale
Seeing this arcade board of Sega’s Golden Axe 2: The Revenge of Death Adder on Yahoo! Japan Auction brought back very fond memories of 2 of my best friends in high school and me frantically popping in coin after coin trying to complete this game. Ahh those were the days. Those who have played this great game in arcades will know that this is not an easy game to complete without using heaps of credits, at least that’s how it was with us. The game though, was an absolute blast, especially if you have 3-4 players simultaneously since you’ll be able to perform special group attacks such as the spinning piledriver! This is one of those games you just have to play with some buddies to understand why arcades should live forever and some games will never be the same when played at home.
I was so glad to see this on YJ Auctions since I don’t think they come up very often, but I’m also pretty bummed that 23,000 YEN (assuming it doesn’t go any higher) is a fair chunk of change for an old game. So I guess my dream of putting this beauty into a restored cabinet will have to be put on hold, just like so many of my other projects due to time & money constraints. *sigh* Welcome back to the real world.
Y!J Auction for Golden Axe 2: Revenge of Death Adder Arcade Board here. Auction ends 22nd September.
There’s a major upcoming Gundam competition in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of Gundam. Anime Festival Asia (AFA) and Danny Choo will be collaborating with Bandai to introduce the Bandai World Gunpla Competition. This competition is a little different because it is an online competition that will allow participants from ANYWHERE ON EARTH to submit their entries via photos. This sounds like a truly exciting event because if it’s promoted correctly and reaches a wide enough audience, will bring together the best Gunpla modelers from every corner of the world, not just a specific region.
I’m already trying to finish up my as-yet unfinished custom 1/100 MG Gouf before the November 1st cutoff entry date. Most of us would probably never win anything but I think it’ll be really interesting to be a part of such an exciting event.
For those of you who would be interested in participating, head over to figure.fm for competition rules & regulations. Here’s hoping there’ll be lots of entries for this wonderful event.
Here’s some good news for Plamo (Plastic Model) fans, especially the legions of Gunpla (Gundam Plastic) fans out there. Bandai has revealed that their upcoming Perfect Grade (PG) kit to be released in November will be the Gundam 00 Raiser, which is the unit piloted by series protagonist Setsuna F. Seiei in Mobile Suit Gundam 00. According to Bandai’s press release, this will be their 1st all new Perfect Grade Gundam kit in 5 years! Really? Didn’t they just release the Gundam Astray Red Frame earlier this year? Anyway, this upcoming PG Gundam 00 Raiser kit will come with the 00 Gundam and 0 Raiser, both of which can be combined just like in the series. The kit will of course come with the usual bells and whistles expected of Bandai’s PG kits: highly articulated and highly poseable, inner body frame, a host of weapons, light up gimmicks on the GN drives which incorporates a spinning function too!
That’s it, I’m pretty much sold on the spinning GN Drive so this is one kit from Bandai which I’m genuinely looking forward to in a long while. And finally, the PG Gundam 00 Raiser kit will retail for 25,000 YEN ($270) which admittedly, is pretty steep even for a PG kit. But hey, that shouldn’t come as any surprise since this is Bandai we’re talking about, what with this being their cash cow franchise. I’m sure we can all count on them churning out “Limited Edition” color variants in the not-too-distant future.
This shouldn’t come as any surprise since Hot Toys (or any other toy manufacturers for the matter) will milk every penny out of a franchise by releasing minor costume updates and variants. Well, at least this one comes with a battle-damaged endoskeleton featured base and a 1/6th scale fully articulated Hydrobot with light up function. So I guess it’s all good.
How many of you who purchased the original-release John Connor are intending to pick this version up as well? Or are some of you thinking that you should’ve waited for this instead? Me..I still prefer the original one, but the light up Hydrobot on this is making this kinda tempting…hrmm. Damn you HT!
Some of you might have already heard of Harrison Krix of Volpin Props, but if you haven’t then I’d suggest you stop whatever you’re doing right away (including reading this post) and go visit his blog right now! This guy makes some of the most fantastic props I’ve seen, I kid you not. I think he pretty much outdid himself with his most recent costume/prop of the beloved Big Daddy from Bioshock. This guy has crazy skills. He has documented the Big Daddy build on his blog here. I’m amazed at the attention to detail and the amount of planning, design and execution that he has put into it. I think the people from Legacy Effects (formerly Stan Winston Studios) or some other big name Hollywood special effects company should hire him right away.
Also check out the video of the Big Daddy suit with the working drill arm…Holy $#!+
The car manufacturer with the unmistakable three-pronged star on its badge has finally revealed its next generation Alpha car. We’re of course referring to Mercedes’ much-anticipated SLS AMG. The general consensus across the WWW seems to be positive in regards to the design of the car. I personally think it’s quite a sexy car, although nowhere near as jaw-droppingly gorgeous as the 300 SL Gullwing of yesteryear. Whether this design will stand the test of time is anybody’s guess. Unlike the 300 SL of the 50s though, this SLS AMG will most certainly come equipped with a bucketload of cutting edge technology.
“With the new SLS AMG, Mercedes-Benz is presenting a fascinating super sports car that will quicken the pulse of any car fan,” says Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of Daimler and boss of Mercedes-Benz.
“The SLS AMG bolsters both the Mercedes-Benz and AMG brands equally, and will surely become one of the most alluring sports cars of our time.”
As for the specs, front-mid mounted 6.3-litre AMG V8 churning out a staggering 420kW and 650Nm via a seven-speed double-clutch gearbox, aluminum space frame body coupled with aluminum double-wishbone suspension, 1620kg kerb weight, carbon ceramic brakes, an electronically limited top speed of 317km/h, 0-100km/h in 3.8seconds…nuff said.
Want one? Now all you have to do is pony up €177,310.
It didn’t seem that long ago that Arcana Heart 2 was released in arcades and on Sony PS2, and now fans of this all-girl 2D Fighting series have Arcana Heart 3 to look forward to. Examu has just launched a teaser site for Arcana Heart 3 here. The site doesn’t have much at the moment, except for a picture of a female character called Weiss who is rumored to be the new main character in the storyline, as well as a Gundam-lookalike character, which apparently is her Arcana/Geist.
Ariesu.com has a few more scans of pages relating to Arcana Heart from a gaming magazine. I’ve managed to find out from a Gamespot thread that the magazine highlighted the following:
New heroine called Weiss, based on the German theme of the game
Her companion (the Gundam looking character) is named Godfried
She belongs to an organization called Drexler Institute.
Arcanas are being replaced by something called Geist
