Okay, here’s another over-the-top (price-wise) figure that we’ve been seeing lately. I’ve previously mentioned about the 1-meter tall Masterd Models EVA-01 (also from Medicom) which cost a whopping $1600. And here’s an equally outrageously priced figure. It’s a 1/6-Scale Super Armored Suit (S.A.F.S.) from Mashinen Krieger. The cost: 105,000? (approx. USD$1000). Yup, you read that right..that’s three 0s after the 1.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my Medicom figs and I like what Kow Yokoyama did with Maschinen Krieger. His designs are fantastic. But a grand seeems like alot to pay for a 12″ figure, and as much as I love this 1/6 Super Armored Fighting Suit there’s no way I can justify shelling out $1000 for it.

Although it is being distributed by Medicom, it’s actually made by Toys McCoy. For those who are lucky enough or are considering picking this bad boy up, you’ll be pleased to know that it is limited to 600 pieces. The S.A.F.S. unit comes with a blue-lighted cockpit panel, red emergency inspection light, as well as a red-lighted emitter on the left arm. It’s 40 cm tall and made with a mix of ABS, diecast metal, and PVC. The female figure will come with uniform and a removable helmet.

Will you be buying one?

The current issue of HobbyJapan has news of a new Injection Plastic (IP) kit of Five Star Stories’ The BANG from Volks. This will be welcome news for fans of this longtime series who find Volks’ resin kit offerings to be out of their budget as this new wave of IP kits from Volks will be much more affordable. Are you a fan of the series?

amigurumi-lemmings

A very talented and creative individual by the name of June of PlanetJune.com crocheted these Amigurumi Lemmings. She made the Walker, Floater, Blocker, Builder, and Miner Lemmings. I remembered playing Lemmings (the game, of course) while I was a wee little kid. It’s amazing how these little buggers can still look so darn adorable after almost two decades. Head on over to PlanetJune for details and patterns if you’re interested in making these for yourselves.

This here would be one of those grail figures to have if you’re a hardcore Evangelion collector. This towering 1/80-Scale Evangelion Unit 01 Collectible Statue looks nice enough, but at ?155,400 (approx. USD$1300) it seems to me this will only cater to the most financially blessed Evangelion fans. Well, if you ask me not even Rei’s used panties are worth that much (ok, maybe it might). If I’m not mistaken it seems like it’s made from “sofubi” (soft vinyl), the same material that Medicom uses on some of their figures. Well, here’s hoping it’s not since $1300 is alot to pay for a vinyl figure, even if it comes in at a whopping 1 meter tall! It also comes with entry plug that opens (I think), a progressive knife and an acrylic base plate. I also came across the word “Masterd Models”…wonder what that means. Looks like they put together the words “Master” and “Bastard”. But why? Perhaps those of you who can read Japanese can shed some light…

Full product info on Medicom’s page here.

UPDATE: This statue can now be ordered through Sideshow Collectibles

I have no idea how I managed to let this one run by me, but I have yet to pick up this absolutely delicious PVC representation of Akashiya Moka from the manga and last year’s anime Rosario and Vampire. Is this one of THE most stunningly gorgeous PVC figures you’ve seen or what? I don’t pick up PVC figures all that often, simply because they’re not quite my thing, but I do buy the ones which I think are exceptional and I think this Akashiya Moka Awakened Ver. figure is one of them. That reminds me, I should do a photo review of one of my other favorite PVC figures (which is still safely sealed in her box), the 1/8 Revy figure from Alter. Revy is of course the no-nonsense gun-toting babe from Black Lagoon.

Anyway, before I start to stray, this post is all about our blood-sucking vixen Akashiya Moka here. And behold her awesomeness in all her plastic glory! Also visit Good Smile’s page for more nose-bleeding pics.

nikon-d700-guerilla-marketing-billboard-advertisement
I’m not one who cares much about advertisements since most of the time they don’t do much for me. But the guys and gals behind the Nikon D700 Guerilla Marketing campaign definitely hit this right out of the park. This is one of the most creative and attention-grabbing marketing ads I’ve seen in a long time.

At a busy subway station in Seoul, Korea Nikon made an interactive light-boxed billboard with an image of paparazzi with cameras and incorporated motion activated flashlights which will trigger off whenever there was a passerby. This will look as if the paparazzi were clamouring to take pictures of a celebrity, which in this case is your ordinary Joe passerby. And the red carpet apparently leads all the way out of the station and into a mall where you can purchase a brand-spanking new Nikon D700! Pure genius I say!

Here’s a review of the Nikon D700 if this post just got you interested in the actual product.

The fine folks at Predatorstuff.com have posted a review on the Cinemaquette 1/3-Scale Predator Statue. IMHO, the Cinemaquette Predator Statue is arguably one of the most awesome Predator collectible to have. The statue stands at an imposing 80cm (32 inches) in height and comes with an equally imposing $2000 price tag. It is sculpted by the legendary Steve Wang. Head over here for the rest of the review as well as loads more pictures and videos of this work of art.

And if you’re like me, and you’re a huge Predator fan then you owe it to yourself to check out the rest of Predatorstuff.com and be prepared to have an overdoes of all things Predator related.

I’ve previously written about a 1/1 Full-Scale Gundam that was being built in Shiokaze Park at Odaiba, Tokyo to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the the Mobile Suit Gundam animated television series.

Apparently, work on the behemoth has finally been completed and there was a Grand Opening Ceremony to commemorate the event! From the looks of the pictures and videos, it must’ve been an awesome spectacle. The 1/1 Scale Gundam will be on exhibition at the Shiokaze Park until the 31st of August, but for those of us who aren’t fortunate enough to witness it in person, I guess these pictures and videos will have to do. Enjoy!

I’m a few months’ late with this news as I was never really interested in GamePark’s GP2X Wiz prior to its release. I’ve already got a PSP, among a host of other consoles to occupy what little free time I have for games. However, I became interested in the GP2X after viewing a few Youtube videos of the GP2X Wiz running MAME as well as a host of other emulators. It seems like this tiny little wonder can do a alot of things, such as MPEG4, xViD and DivX video playback, MP3, Ogg Vorbis, WAV audio support, as well as the requisite JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP formats for viewing photos. It also comes standard with some pretty impressive specs such as a touch sensitive 2.8-inch QVGA OLED screen, 533MHz ARM9 processor, 64MB of RAM, and 1GB of NAND flash memory!

I’ve been spending too much lately, so I’ll have to wait a little longer if I do decide to pick this miniature wonder up. I’m wondering how well it’ll do compared to the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP. It’s a fair bit smaller than the Sony PSP or Nintendo DS Lite and would be far more pocketable as a portable gaming system. Are you interested in the GP2X Wiz and will you be buying one?

Whoa!! Is this Metroid Prime Samus Phazon Suit from First 4 Figures one badass statue or what?! I’ve rarely come across a statue that would surprise me in such a positive way. I’ve been more of a 12″ figure collector simply because IMO I think most statues don’t feel “alive” and dynamic enough, and their lack of poseability is usually a real deal breaker for me. But not with this statue. I have to admit, the pose is amazing, and the use of LEDs to light up different parts of the suit pretty much sealed the deal for me. This is definitely going right into my “To Buy” list.

Quoted from First 4 Figures, “First 4 Figures has used the official game files in order to create an extremely accurate recreation of the Phazon suit, with pose inspiration taken from official Metroid artwork…We completely reengineered the original Varia suit model to make the Phazon suit by casting it entirely in transparent resin, adding over 25 LED lights through the suit and finished it off by adding a mirror base which really shows off the lights. When the lights are turned off, an internal IC chip allows for the lights to fade out slowly.”

The statue is only limited to 1500 units, so if you intend to grab one for yourelf I suggest you act quickly. Pre-orders at the First 4 Figures site has closed, but both Play-Asia and Sideshow Collectibles still has it up for pre-order at time of this writing.

Incidentally, there was also a Samus in Varia Suit Statue which was released by First 4 Figures sometime back. I never knew it existed, I would definitely have purchased it if I knew about it back then.
